Hey Kim, I owe your husband an apology. There was a previous thread, and I can't find it now, where you mentioned getting your saw. In that thread you stated that your husband told you that the saw wouldn't cut your hand. I wrote back that the blade wouldn't cut, but that it would grind into your hand, or something to that effect. Well, yesterday I had a little accident with my saw, and I tried to saw my finger off. Guess what, nothing happened. I then put my fingertip on the blade and rubbed it all over while it was running. Nothing happened. Picture me now on my knees begging his humble forgiveness for doubting him, and also for thanking God that he was right!

well i'm glad you tried it first ;D. it is probably just a matter of time before i see it for myself. i get so into what i'm doing that i've been a hair away numerous times. he tried to tell me this again the other day and told me which employee had tested it over and over. my comment was "mmmmmmmhuh". he probably knows it first-hand but wants me to think he is such an ace cutter that he's never touched it . seriously i'm glad he was right and that you didn't get cut or worse! and even though you're telling me this i'm still gonna TRY to keep my fingers out of the way. must have something to do with the flesh because i'm betting it could whiz through the bone. i would like to know why this is so. kim

i would not worry about the cutting of flesh. i use a 14 inch gas saw to cut concrete almost every day and it won't even cut into a peice of wood. with the table saw you are useing i would worry about you finger getting pulled down into the saw blade opening and getting ripped up not cut off.

Hi all. Interesting reading these comments about saws. I've been a woodworker for many years now, and although these tile saws seem harmless, a saw is a saw is a saw, and one should never lose respect for it. I've seen the results of more than one person who got careless, and it isn't pretty.
Be cool, don't want to have to refer to someone out there as "Lefty".

And the older you get the longer it takes to heal. I have a diamond blade in my Makita hand grinder and it gave me a real quick manicure on my one finger the other day it doesn't take long.

I've always loved sawing, sanding and (trying to) build.stuff, loved cutting my own firewood when I lived in Colorado. There's just something really neat about cutting down a huge tree. TIMBERRRRRRR ! Have had several kinds of saws - the band saw was the scariest. All the other saws stopped when ya' take your finger off the button - not so with the band saw! Man, that sucker would slice your finger off in a New York minute! I have a healthy respect for those saw blades. I have never cut myself, but did manage to slice the cord of the circular saw one day. Had a friend that nearly sliced his leg off with the chain saw one day while cutting wood - way out in the forest in Colorado by himself! I still don't know how he got himself back to the truck and to the hospital.
Those diamond blades may not cut, but I'm still keepin' my fingers clear! Barbara has custody of the saw, so we cut rocks together and use a block of wood to push the rock.

Llana posted it and I thought it, but yesterday when we were sawing more rocks, I noticed that we both quit using blocks for controlling the rocks and were just using our fingers. We must be believing what y'all have said about the diamond blades not cutting fingers. We were careful. Neither of us got our fingers into the blade. It is good to hear that the blade won't cut us, but I still don't want to test that theory! Barbara

And you quit using the board to control the rocks? Couple of days ago I was trying to get the lid off a bottle of super glue. Started with a butter knife and that wasn't working so, as I was reaching into the drawer to get the steak knife, my mind is screaming "Don't do it, your'e gonna cut yourself"..... Guess what I did ;D It's healing up nicely though.

Cookie, I'm so sorry that you cut yourself, but glad that you are healing. I think part of the trick is not to ever take your eyes off what you're doing, even if it seems like 'second nature'. WarrenA, I have a Makita hand-held grinder that I was using on rocks a few weeks ago. Got more than a manicure on just one finger with just a tiny slip. I managed to get 3 fingers and my thumb, and it happened in a heartbeat! Where did you get your diamond blade for your grinder? And, is your Makita a regular hand-held grinder, or one that is specially made for rocks? Sorry if that's a stupid question. I haven't done any successful research on that yet. Barbara

Hi all. Cookie, everytime I've hurt myself, it's been doing something that I thought to myself, "don't do that, go over and get the right tool". I think wisdom comes with age, cuz I haven't done anything stupid in a long time. Well, nothing stupid that physically hurts anyway!

Just a reminder, diamond saw blades and grinding wheels are NOT the same thing. While a diamond saw blade won't cut you, a grinding wheel will. Anyone ever touching a green carbide wheel while grinding will find that out.
