hi all, i dont have any experience with the thicker premium grade HDPE but was wondering if the 1" thick stuff would be strong/stiff enough to be used as a trim saw base board?

Absolutely, great stuff. I work with a variety of "industrial" plastics quite a bit, works well for all sorts of applications, and easy to cut or drill.
