**FINAL UPDATE**
I got it running thanks to the help here! follow up on a new thread:
Lessons Learned
**END FINAL UPDATE**
**UPDATE**
Well I took the blade off and let it run, and it was clunking, so I took the belt off and it was nearly burned through. Then I ran the motor unhitched and it is as smooth as silk. Likewise the bearing is smooth as well. So here's what it looks like happened:
- the blade got pinched in the rock, froze, and the belt burned on the pulley.
What I can't explain is 1) why did a brand new blade, with plenty of oil, get stuck in a rock? 2) why is the blade still completely fine, no scratches, bends, nothing, perfectly fine in fact it looks brand new? 3) what was the smoke inside the saw box? I understand the smoke around the saw, but there was more smoke INSIDE the saw although it seemed to just be inside the lid and even through it was white and fairly dense in there (more than I've ever seen inside the saw)
The rock is still secure in the vice, I torque the heck out of the vice with a big end wrench on the giant wing nuts, and tap the rock and grab it to see if it shakes before I ever start cutting anything. The rock didn't appear to have slipped or cracked at all. This rock is some sort of more beige picture jasper (as opposed to something with a wider variety of colors)
I'll get a new belt but things appear to be OK. I am concerned about how the blade got stuck and what the smoke inside the saw was. I wonder if the feed is messed up. I'll check that tomorrow.
**END UPDATE**
Murphy's law.
I think it is the bearing but I won't know until I can clean it up and pull it apart.
It was seized up when I went out. The motor was humming and the belt was tight. The blade seemed stuck in the rock and the box was full of smoke.
I powered it off, slid the rock back off the blade. The blade still seems to spin true. But when I fired it back up there was a bad shake to the whole thing.
I think the bearing smoked and froze up when it went off true. The brand new blade is hopefully ok. I've never replaced a bearing, but hopefully it *is* a bearing and something of a standard size so I can quickly repair it.
