Sorry, left this one sitting on the ledge by my shop to dry out the oil so I could take pics. This is poppy from what I call the small orb poppy vein. This vein was exposed in a road cut not far from the Strawberry Jasper vein and was mostly quite narrow. It had to be chiseled out and I stupidly followed it into a mass of roots that turned out to be poison oak roots. Boy, I paid for that find for a couple of weeks. Got poison oak so bad that the doctor was taking me around to show other doctors how bad poison oak can get. I was so excited by the jasper that I didn't even think to look uphill to see what plants were growing above the vein. Never make that mistake again, for sure!.....Mel Have to cut this parallel to the vein for pattern. Small "one cab wonder" slabs only. Closer look at the pattern: Couple of 38 X 52 cabs to show what it looks like worked:

Very attractive! I used to think all poppy jasper was ketchup and mustard, so I gave mine (ketchup and mustard) away. Then a friend showed me his awesome collection. I had never seen such variety of color or pattern. Now I am a poppy jasper fan, but not of the ketchup/mustard variety.

I'd probably crawl through some poison oak to collect that material!
