(zzz)Oh, uh, sorry, just nodded off a bit there.

I have been doing some experimenting and climbing the learning curve to ring intarsia(GRRR sp). The pieces of slabs that I used were not perfectly flat and I had no way to perfectly flatten them so I figured I could just use enough glue to fill the tiny gaps. Wrong, except for filling them after the ring blanks were drilled.

Trying to put Tony and Chris's initials in some rings. First try a disaster. I crushed white opal wood to a powder, put glue in the initial then added the white powder. IT TURNED CLEAR and only came back a little when it dried.



I prepped two rings for each of them (Chris's first rings broke) so I will have another go at it with a different powder. I have something in mind, just need to mix the glue. I know that what I am going to use will not turn clear but I can not tell you what it is because it is a surprise. I hope to have them finished by Christmas.

Those rings are too cool!! Really like the ring third from the bottom. I don't wear rings but seeing those changes things.

Thanks all. I was not sure how it would look but I ended up liking them.

The thing I worry about now is breakage. I put some agate and other stuff with jade so they may break easy. I need to do just jade to jade but at the time I did not have enough small slabs of jade that were even close to flat enough to glue together plus I had no way to cut more. Set up now and cutting like crazy but I am mostly working on another project with aromatic cedar and jade. Kind of functional pieces of art to hold e-cigs. Photos later if I ever get anything put together.
