I just found this section last week, so I'll introduce myself properly, if late. I've been a rock enthusiast since I was 5 years old and got a little onyx turtle from the Turtle Back Zoo in my old home state of New Jersey. Also, my mom got one of those cheap red tumblers when I was a kid in the 60s, and by her dedication created a couple of pretty good batches. I've wanted to try tumbling again all these years. Now due to my job and living arrangements I can have noisy tumblers going without disturbing anyone, and Maine beaches full of free, interesting stones. I've got a Lortone double 6# barrel rotary, and a 10# Thumler vibrating tumbler, both of which I'm gradually getting used to. My goal is to use the tumbled stones in resin crafting, maybe magnets or paper weights, to sell in gift shops around here. This forum has already taught me so much, I'm sure it saved me lots of time and struggle. Great people in this group!

Welcome from Missouri. I'd like to see what beach rocks from Maine look like sometime.

Hello from Virginia Beach. What part of Maine are you in? My people are from the Harpswell area. Lots of rocks as you say. My cousin did a lot of business with tourmaline, garnet and lepidolites.

Thanks! I'm living near Penobscot Bay (aka, the Mid-coast). I lived for 35 years in Connecticut before life brought me here in 2012, and I really enjoy it. Very different from Jersey or Connecticut, that's for sure, but easy to get used to. I'll post some "before" rock pics, and I have my second tumble batch in polish as we speak, so hopefully will be able to share.

Oo, where in Connecticut? I lived there for 35 years, so it'll always have a place in my heart.

Allll over. Moved a lot for jobs, etc. I'm very familiar with that area, used to own a condo in New Britain back in the 80s, and I have a good friend in Southington. My daughter was born and raised in Connecticut. Way different lifestyle from Maine!! But we like it up here, especially now that I have "Mainah" grandkids.

I like it better in maine. Seems Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine people live a bit more quite lives than those who are further south, although cities are cities. Hope to move up north in a couple more years. Wouldn't mind my nearest neighbors being a mile away and living a more self sufficient life style.
