I had an excellent time rockhounding in McDermitt. Here is evidence I wasn't just partying in Vegas. Here is the camping setup on the McDermitt Riviera. As you can see the facilities are lush. This is "the phone booth". If you stood just right on this hump you could sometimes get coverage from a cell tower Roy (notice the shirt!) and his wife Bonney. They (along with Clyde the rock-hound) were so kind to give me a ride in their truck when I got to a "trail" that my CR-V couldn't handle. Thanks again Roy! I learned Roy was a thunder egg digging machine. Those eggs flat out stick into the sucking clay. The rest of the crew was some guys from Spokane and northern Washington. They aren't in RTH, but otherwise are great guys As is typical, I got more material than my vehicle should carry. Probably the highlight of McDermitt is the Gary Green (aka Larsonite) But the best part of McDermitt is that there is such a variety. Lots of petrified wood in both traditional form And in more agatized/opalized form I really like the green&brown agatized stuff which seems to form around the replaced knots and branchs Found some nice agate. And thunder eggs Some nice, fine grain wonderstone that should polish nicely And some neat brecciated wonderstone And I even found some excellent jasper/agate breccia which is quite rare in McDermitt in my experience Thanks for looking.

Wow, definitely going to have to follow in your footsteps next time there is a trip! You should think about our planned West Texas trip in early November. Looks like the rocks come running to you!

Really enjoyed your McDermitt trip pics, panamark!! Very nice (and color galore) stuff ya got there! Had to take another look 'cause I thought there were chopsticks in your agate/jasp breccia pics. Haven't seen brecciated wonderstone until your pics and it is pretty. Will you please post pics of your t-eggs when you cut 'em?

Thanks for the show, nice bunch of finds. Always fun going there, so much stuff and variety. We also generally give the camping facilities at least four stars, or is it a scorpion and three tics?

Hey Roy I be coming thru in mid to late October! Let's go hounding, will have Susan with me this time and she has never seen the west and never been rock hounding except tame little fee pay places for crystals. She is now retired too!!! Yes haw Goin on The Great Western Trip I I and stay in out there for 6 months! She bought a 24 foot camper, something about my tiny truck camper being so small you can flush the commode, fry eggs and make your bed all without moving. Ah she lacks inspiration! LOL

Amazing variety, just stunning! Going to have to add that to my list of places to go next year, will have to keep an eye on the board to see when the next RTH trip kicks off.
Thanks for sharing your finds, lots of inspiration!
