Three bins full of fractional HP motors for the most part. Most are 220VAC 1000 RPM .1-.3 HP fan motors with external cap. 75 cents per pound. Bins picked up every two weeks for re-melt. Window fan and disposal motors, not good for much

Green w/envy. We went to Salem yesterday, one stop was to a friendly motor shop, looking for cradles for a few motors missing them, got three, buck each. Sounds the deal Larry. Got 220VAC in barn and use it for rock heater. Those 220 motors are sweet. I got a 1/2 GE, 1/4 Reliance, both TEFC(Larry knows this, totally enclosed fan cooled), and an open 1/6. All cap starts and 110/220. At 75 cents/pound they cost $50.50 all three. The 1/2 is a heavier than normal. If I bring motors they trade pound for pound plus 25 cents/pound, unless one of theirs did not run. Then straight exchange. Cradles often an issue. Motor shop better for them. Well done, cradles make things easy.

Plus closed factories gone into the rental biz with all the manufacturing stuff carried out back to pick thru. To be honest, 90% goes straight to recycle and liability limits recyclers to retail.

Only thing we have around here is one of the largest tractor salvage yards in the country. Takes up a half section of land, + another quarter section truck salvage yard right across the street.

Hi Jamesp -
I couldn't help but notice the 2nd picture of motors. There's a red Bell & Gossett motor there which is a water pump motor. That's what I used for my tumbler.
These are great motors. They are continuous duty with overload protection & grease tubes for lubrication. Unlike fan motors, this one is not AO (air-over). This Makes it perfect for things like tumblers.
Looks like the ideal recycling yard.
Have fun there. Sak

Fan duty is torture for a motor. Always a constant load. As with tumblers. I do have good luck w/fan motors for tumblers. Probably because they are sized to be a bit under loaded. I should have bought the Bell and Gossett (for 75 cents/pound) and sold it on ebay. I did not even notice it. May still be there. The pump alone is high dollar, and steal the motor . after looking at the prices, I would be better of leaving the motor on the pump....

Lucky we moved into a smaller place(half lot),than we had in North Dakota(one acre),or I would be having my backyard full of goodies.....LMAO I has everything I needed there, just had to find it..Thumbs up Since moving to Oregon,my wife knows I'm not a city guy,so I stay clear of Salem,Portland and the bigger cities."Hate them all"! So anything I find or buy is from a buddy or online,so it doesn't amount to much.. James,I like your goodies you post online, makes a guy drool from the ideas that start rolling through their heads...Thumbs up
