Well, I've got a used Lortone 45C (in pretty good shape), a 33b, a bucket of rocks from the driveway to practice on, and plenty of grit, polish, etc. The last of the stuff arrived this week, and I've tested it all out. But... I have to take a trip next week, so with all these new toys just begging for me to play with them, I have to wait until I get back. I don't want there to be any problems with leaks, power outages, etc. and not be there to take care of it right away, and with it being my first batch, I'm not willing to risk it. Dang. I think the waiting would be no problem if the rocks were running, but having it all sitting idle is making me crazy.

I know the feeling. I got our tumbler as a birthday gift for my daughter. Her birthday is in September, and the tumbler is currently running, so as you can tell I didn't make it. ;D
I was very concerned about leaks the first night it was running, and so I put the whole thing down in a little 2x2 plastic wash tub, and that's where it has lived ever since. It hasn't leaked (yet) and I sleep a lot better.

Trouthunter, Put some of your stones in your pocket when you go on vacation. It will remind you about how wonderful life is and the promise of tommorow. I know, I'm kinda flakey I was just meditating a few minutes before and kinda got out there. Felt like the right thing to say. ;D cookie

That's not flakey at all. I m,ight just do that. I've always got a rock or two in my pocket. I tend to pick up interesting ones as I find them. My son does that to, and my wife is getting pretty sick of finding them in the washing machine. (I blame the kid).
I suspect I'll have my eyes open on this little trip, so even if I don't have anything in my pockets when I leave, I probably will when I come back!

so what is your daughter getting now for her sept. birthday? I thought I might try and get her started into wire wrapping the stones into jewelry, so maybe I'll give her the wire I bought this morning. Or maybe I'll give that to her tonight. How about a combo trim saw/arbor? I've heard kids as young as six or seven can learn to grind cabs...

lol - or one of those nice deliveries of rough from africa, playhouse that looks ever so similar to a rockhounds workshop, sphere-making machine, large drums of grit....

No problem. Lord knows I'v got a big enough fanny to warrant it.
The boy and I hiked up and down the gravel driveway this evening and came up with a couple handfuls of small quartz pieces and another little agate. (500 feet of gravel driveway and I think I've found the only two agates in the bunch). The small pieces of quartz should round out the first load in the tumbler nicely.
Hmm. A truckload of obsidian for the driveway? Wonder what would happen the first time the boy wrecks his bicycle on it. Talk about skinned knees!! I don't think my HMO could handle it! I'd have to stitch him up myself, cowboy style. Give him a shot of bourbon and a bullet to gnaw on and just start sewing.
;D kidding.
