I'm wondering if older tumbling machines work as well as the new ones do. I have the lortone qt66 and a thirty year old beacon star tumber. The beacon star motor runs great. Doesn't ever slow down, belts are good. It seems that the lortone grinds the rock quicker. The beacon star doesnt seem to grind as well as the lortone. And I always have a little grit in the barrell after 7 days. Any sugestions?

yes both barrels are octagon shape. To the best of my knowedge both barrels are 3lb. The beacon star is built similar to my lortone. I put 4 tablespoons of grit into the barrel.

Brett, I wonder if the speed of the barrel rolling affects the speed of grinding/polishing.
Does one rotate faster than the other?
