The Stone - tourmalinated quartz doublet - my first doublet The bezel - finally measured & soldered without assistance Bezel soldered to back plate (if that's what you call it). Needs some more clean up & the good thing is.........the stone fits just fine! Another shot showing the seam & by the way ..........NO GAPS.................it's a good join!! I have yet to decide what I am going to do with the outside edges yet. How much to leave, square or rectangular. Do I want corners or rounded off & what kind of pattern on it. Haven't got that far yet. Okay, so there's a little bit of solder that didn't melt that I have to clean out of there. I probably had too much solder if I have a piece left over & still got a good join. I'm still new at this so what do I know............ Oh and if you are wondering why some of those points are bent back, it's because when I checked the fit of the stone the first time & tried to pull it out the dental floss broke off. Had to reach for the dental tools to get it loose. It wasn't straight in there anyway. Next time worked so much better!!

Roll or beat your round solder flat and the torch won't blow and roll it away from the bezel fonnie. You are lookin fine!

Well done! If you drill a hole in the back plate, you can use a pin to push the cab out when floss breaks. We also use the floss in a t shape making the strings in two directions. That is one string in north-south direction, and another string going east-west.

Really nice Donnie! Do you put a plastic flat piece under the stone? It does two things, one is that it cushions the stone because the pressure of the bezel pushing on the stone can Crack it right then or in the future as expansion and contraction occurs, in the old days they used sawdust. Also you can put multiple layers to raise the stone up high enough that the bezel points just barely grip the stone. Most folks use plastic grocery lids, you know like butter, sour cream etc. They will be different thickness, usually clear is the thinnest. Get a lot of colors in case the stone is sorta clear and you can see thru.
