What a time we had. We collected rock from about 10 am till 2 pm. I brought back about 40# of Gold Palm and Agate. We had some really sweet watermelon. There was a cool breeze blowing throuth the warm south Texas air. All my tumblers are now rolling. Llana And Barbera are really cool people. They fit right in with all the other folks in the club and we look forward to seeing them again. Llana took some pics and aid she would post them as soon as she could. A good time was had by all. Bob

It was, indeed, a fine day - even though I did have to get up at 5 AM on a Saturday morning! I am NOT an early morning person, but this day was worth it.
Barbara and I had a 2 - 1/2 hour drive, or so we thought. Really only took us 2 hrs., so we were a bit early. It's a good thing all those little antique and junk stores we passed were not open or we would have been late! I LOVE those old antique/junk stores and we passed a bunch of 'em!
We had a beautiful Texas day. Temp in the high 80's, partly cloudy sky and a nice breeze. If we wouldn't have had those clouds and breeze, we would have killed over from the heat. Everything was so green and, of course, the snakes were out, so we had to be really careful.
We hunted in two places. One a recently plowed pasture, the other a pasture full of cactus and other South Texas shrubs, all with stickers of some sort on them! Lots of petrified wood, golden Palm wood just lying on the ground - most of it we didn't even have to exert much effort to get from the ground to our rock bags/buckets. Lots of great tumbling size pieces. Also found larger pieces that will be great for slabbing.
The watermelon Paul brought was the sweetest and one of the best I have had in years! As soon as he cut into it, my mouth was watering! YUMMY! Most of us had PB&J sandwiches, a slice or two of watermelon, then back into the pastures for more rocks. About 2, we were all too pooped to rock anymore and called it a day.
Today I am one tired gal, a bit stiff and sore from all that bending. But, after a couple days rest, I'd gladly pack up and go again!
Bob and a couple of the other folks had it going. Bob had a dolly with a HUGE bucket strapped to it. Another fella had built himself a cart that held 3 5 gal buckets with room around them for their rockhounding tools, water and such. Sure wish I would have thought to take a pic of that cart - it was sure neat!
Am uploading pics from my camera and will have them posted soon.
I want ya'll to take a look at Barbara in the WHITE shirt, that stayed white the whole day! I got filthy, but didn't see a single little smudge of dirt on her white shirt. Whoever heard of going rockhounding in a white shirt and not getting it dirty. I don't even own a white shirt 'cause the first time I wore it out of the house, it wouldn't be white anymore!

Bob and Llana are right. We couldn't have asked for a better day. The weather was about as perfect for rockhunting as it could be in south Texas in May. The rocks were easy to find and plentiful, and the people were great! I weighed my rocks this morning. I ended up with 43 lbs.: 4 coffee cans full of perfect tumbling size, and a five gallon bucket over half full of larger stones that need to be cut or busted. As for my white shirt, I'm not surprised that it stayed white. I was picking up rocks....not ROLLING in them! ;D However, I was surprised that after trudging thru the dust, brush, plowed field, and cow patties, my tennis shoes were still white! Yep, it was a great day! Can't wait to do that again, after my legs will let me start bending them again! Ouch! Barbara

The only mishap of the day was a flat tire. Not on my truck but on my litttle "Rock-mobile". When I got home one of the tires was completely flat. I tried to air it up today but it would only hold air for about 1 minute. I don't know what I could have run over. I'm thinking about filling it up with fix-a-flat and rolling it on my Model B for about an hour.

Hey Bob, Sorry about your flat! Couldn't be that you got into a cactus thorn, or mesquite, or any of those other stickery things out there, could it? As far as Fix-A-Flat, don't use the aerosol kind. It will rust your wheel and will break down and not keep the hole in your tire sealed for very long. Get the green, baby poop, lookin' stuff. Forgot the name, but that stuff is available at most hardware stores, works really well, and is perfect for small tires. Barbara

I forgot all about Slime, John, and that's what I have in my son's bike and go-cart tires. And Slime is a much better color of green than the stuff that I can't remember the name of.....and both of them work really well!
