I had some quartz crystals that had matrix on them and I cleaned them with oxalic acid. They cleaned up nice but I decides to tumble them. For some reason they are very gassy. I popped open the lid and there was foam clear to the top. I'm using a different type of grit that I got from Miles supplies. It's a 30-60 grit. The stuff is working pretty good. It's not silicone carbide ( I think) I forget what they told me but I need some gas release. Will the baking soda work?

Hey Brett. Did you rinse ALL of the oxalic acid off the rocks? I've used that stuff to bleach wood and you really have to give that stuff a good rinse. Don't know if that's your problem or not but you may want to check and make sure it's okay to mix baking soda with the oxalic acid before putting it in the barrel, or you might wind up with more than foam for a problem!

When I use oxalic acid to bleach wood I usually rinse it 3 times otherwise the acid will just keep working. It is a powerfull acid and works well especially on iron stains.

I am a commercial painter and do wood work in homes and businesses, if you get an iron stain on wood the acid takes it right out.
