we've been having country break-ins in the last 2 wks and the painter was rattling and opening the windows and it dawned on me the alarm was set and he shouldn't be able to do that so had to call the alarm people. i was so shamed when the man went into my rock room (aka formal dining room) that used to be so organized and had to hop, skip and jump over rocks to get to the window. i hope i'm not the only one - he apparently isn't into rocks and looked a bit confused - probably thinks i'm a touch off ;D. he's thinking i've got too many and i'm thinking it's not enough! oh well, he should have been ashamed the painter could open the window with the alarm on and not set the alarm off AND that he broke out a window pane testing it . kim

No shame in that! It"s really not his beezwax and can you imagine if some one did break in? Theyld break their neck I finally banished my rocks to the basement. The cat likes to hang out on the table and she was giving me dirty looks. And she only has one eye. (Names Cyclops.) cookie

Yeah, Kim, sounds to me like the alarm guy should be the embarrassed one. How did he manage to break a window pane while testing? Didn't he know that it was glass?
As for rocks in your formal dining room, that sounds pretty normal to me. I have a tiny house (so no formal dining room) but there are currently rocks all over our dining table so that my son and I can't use it for dining. The box for the rock saw along with a few boxes of rough rock are on the floor under my desk. I have a baker's rack by the window that currently holds rocks in various stages, grit, pellets, scale, and other rock related stuff. And the shelves under my microwave are the current home for my woodworking tools and projects.
Too many projects.....not enough room! But nothing to be ashamed of. At least that's my opinion! ;D

cookie if they break in that room they're gonna trip and hit their head on a rock for sure lol.
barbara he was hitting it to see if it would go off with vibration - using the handle end of a screwdriver and not only did it not go off with the vibration but not even with the break then when he left here the wind was setting it off but i was watching how he did it so i've reset the problem ones myself. we already had one break-in ourselves and 2 wks ago when i got home i wasn't the 1st one here but i didn't know the guys that were already here - said they were looking to sell me some steaks - oh yeah i'm buying some steaks out of an old white van with peel 'n' stick letters that look like my daughter put them on - scarey!

barbara our house was broken into 2 yrs ago - they got all of my husbands guns and a safe. the safe was my step-sons - one of those with the code on the bottom and a little bell that goes off but he had worked hard for that money. my husband was devastated over his guns (still is). they didn't touch my stuff and i didn't have a sentimental attachment to the guns but felt extremely violated that someone had been in my turf and knew what we all looked like but we didn't know what they looked like. the irony is that the person i'd swear did it saved my husband's life almost exactly a yr later. my husband was duck hunting and got thrown from the boat in an isolated area. this guy called 9-1-1 and set the rescue in motion but we still aren't clear as to how he knew or where he was when it happened. he called from a cellphone. my husband never saw him or heard him call out to him and was in the water over an hr fighting for his life. he's been trying to get a "reward" now for over a yr. i would never pester someone about a monetary reward for doing the right thing. if we start it it will never end.

Very strange story, Kim! How fortunate that the guy was in the area and able to call for assistance when your husband's accident happened. But I wonder... maybe he got his 'reward' a year earlier? And I can't even begin to imagine anyone expecting a monetary reward for doing the only decent thing to do. This guy sounds like a scumbag who could be capable of anything!

Wow Kim, that sucks.
I can imagine how you feel, but I can also imagine how many people have since been killed by your husbands weapons.
Hope he's managed to rebuild his collection. I hear you can get a full auto Chinese AK-47 for only a few hundred bucks these days; works great for duck hunting or blasting fake steak salesmen, you should take one for a test drive!

There really should be a smiley for the 'willies'. Wonder what it would look like?
Those happenings gave me the willies, too! But I still don't lock my door. Guess I'll hafta give that some thought!
