I want to make a large tumbler in the same manner that the lortones are built. (sorry James) I have several 1/3 horse power motors and various items that can be used. But like to see other ideas before I start.

I have found that making the tumbler base is easy but the barrel is another story. I think you get better action from the store bought barrels- now all I need is to find a 12 lb lortone barrel cheap. I have made 3 bases so far and am quite satisified with them. all still running

That is what im going to do is build the base. I like to build a large one to hold several large barrels. Thanks penquin for the site.

I'd like to build a base also. I always have two 6# barrels that are not tumbling. If I had another base, I could keep at least two barrels in coarse grit all the time.

Hi all. This is the best picture I have so far of my homemade tumbler setup. The film was really old, but you can get the general idea of it's construction. Each barrel is 10" long and holds about 6-7lbs, and rotates at about 50 rpm. img56.photobucket.com/albums/v172/orekar/tumbler.jpg[/img]
