I recently had the honor of doing a very special piece for a very special person. The lady is a cancer survivor and is married to Vet who was severely wounded in the first Gulf War. Their Son received a single shot .22 rifle for his 13th birthday and this was the spent cartridge from his very first shot with the new rifle. His Mom wanted me to do something with it as a piece of wearable jewelry, so after a few conversations back and forth with the husband, I found out his wife loves butterflies, so I proceeded to work on a way to put wings on the spent hull. The wings are 22 ga sterling and the antennae are 18 ga sterling wire with a torch used on the ends to make a ball at the ends for added effect. This was given to her before she knew she had to undergo radical mastectomies on both breasts. He told me she kept it with her in the hospital and now wears it every singe day as a symbol of hope and inspiration. When her husband relayed the extent of her attachment to the piece and how she clung to it as a symbol of hope, I was moved to tears. Their Son is fighting a very serious battle with cancer of the intestines and I did an Eagle for him, but that's another story

What an awesome story! I admit, I got misty eyed just reading it. It's a very beautiful piece- and so full of meaning, too. You did good.

Goodness.... That is beautiful!
Butterflies were special to me. My Mother you see. She didn't just teach me how to fish... she taught me how to "catch" fish.
She didn't teach me to shoot! My Dad did that...
She taught me how to avoid "wasting" meat with my shot. She taught me"One Bullet! Meat for a month." No options. Limited ammo...
Your craft work reminds me of my Mother. Her name is... was Lucille

I also grew up in the country and if not for what game I took with my trusty single shot .22, we would have done without meat a lot of the time. I was taught to make every shot count and not waste anything also
