hi all, need expert input on a Taurus ring saw I use a speedster xl to cut my clam shells, when cutting shapes you have to be real careful making turns. breaking a fair share of blades, is the ring saw much better for cutting shapes hearts, whales, sharks etc. as you know cutting shells is tricky very brittle, any info on ring saws would be appreciated, also anyone have a used ring saw for sale thanking you in advance joejan

I sell Gryphon brand so bear in mind I'm biased. The Taurus uses very expensive blades compared to Gryphon Zephyr. Zephyr also has larger table, cutting capacity and more quiet. More power too. That said, I really prefer the C40 band saw from Gryphon. The Zephyr (and I assume Taurus also) has a complicated drive system with idlers and tensioner pulleys. Band saw is very simple and blade changes are easy. Shells are soft but on hard rock work the ring saw blades are very thick compared to band saw blades so cutting is painfully slow. The two advantages of ring saws are the fact you can cut in any direction and you can use jointed blades to cut inside patterns.
