First of all I am very glad there are files made in many different styles! But if I could only have one file I would have to pick the Barrette file. I know I am limiting myself on inside round holes. Its not my "go to" file as the file I use the most is a Grobet flat file. I guess a half round jewelers file makes the most sense but I would still take the barrette file if it was my only choice. It allows cutting with the other sides "safe".
What about y'all?

ROTF ok now back to files I have a wedged flat file, almost like a saw on the thin side. Like that file. About 1/2" X 7" then add tail. Get them cheap at the industrial scrap yard, guessing they are expensive.

The file I absolutely use on every silver project is the first jewelers file I bought from the instructor. A Grobet #2 Swiss cut ring file. It cost me $24.00 which I thought was a rip off until I started using it.

flrocks, a good file is well worth the money every time. Once a person cracks the wallet for a quality file they will NEVER go back to crap:_)

#2 Swiss cut 4" barette with the sides polished and mounted in the blue plastic file handle. With this one you can file on the bezel top with the file riding up against the stone without damaging it. You can use it on almost any other filing situation where you need to file. Bob
