The idea was to make a piece without use of the torch. Good job! I believe she made the cab as well.

Nice. I tried a "turtle" setting once. The turtle legs were the prongs and the head was drilled for the bail. Yours looks a lot better.

Very nice! I work in San Jose and really wanted to join Pat's classes and tried to get motivated but by Friday afternoons I'm exhausted and all I can think about is getting out of the valley before it turns into a two hour commute.

Well, there were murmurings of changing the class time to a weekend next year, so keep your ears open! I hear you about the commute...used to live in Oakland while commuting to work in Redwood City, and often visited family/friends in the south bay. Pleasant Hill to SJ is a whopper. Are you part of the Contra Costa club?

Are you part of the Contra Costa club? Thanks, Pat also communicated that to me about the possible switch in days. We joined the CC club and attended meetings for about four months before quitting because we felt like we were crashing somebody's private party. It was the strangest experience - I've belonged to several hobby related clubs over rhe years and have never felt less a part of. People seemed to get all nervous and would go out of their way to avoid eye contact. I was looked at suspiciously for coming in and quickly racking up wins in their cab contest haha Could have just been an age-gap thing, idk.

That's nice, I have never see the process of making jewelry. I admire people that make things from scratch, from cakes to airplanes.

What a cute idea, Tela! I didn't know they were called turtle settings. I really like them and want to try another.

Tom, Thanks! I did break one blade going around a sharp corner. Though Pat said it was a rite of passage. Pat, I'm not sure how I'll hang it yet. I'm considering trying a rivet with a strip of hammered and bent copper scrap and some 14 ga wire. Though I'm hesitant to mess it up so I might just do a jump ring. As for chain, I think I have some antiqued copper chain somewhere, but if not then I was going to check Michaels. Black cord might also look nice. Do you have any ideas?

When I first started sawing, I swear I thought I was the dumbest person on the planet. I just kept breaking so many blades. Of course, I was trying to do more difficult stuff, but that's besides the point. After lots of cussing, I realized that I was breaking fewer and fewer blades, until I got to the point where I was dulling a blade before breaking it. I never would have thought it could happen. And the moral of this, is practice, practice, practice.

Pat, do tell, don't be coy

Not coy. Some things hard to describe. I'd invent a chain/cord substitute that still let your setting be the star of the show, but was attractive itself and unique.
