Here's nice big piece of red jasper I dug out of the ground on my break I had to come back on a second day with the heavy artillery to unearth it. I found it in the historic church lot I stroll on my break. Many of you will recall this heart I carved from piece of red jasper I found there last year. That was just from a just a small stone The big red rock is amazing when considering its journey. It certainly didn't originate in Phoenix. Imagine how big the boulder may have been that this broke from million of years ago? And how rounded it is! It must have rolled as river rock 1000's of years. To end up being embedded in the Phoenix valley for who knows long? The mr.mohs comes along and its begins a new journey It 14 inches in diameter, rock solid heavy, at at least seven 7lbs. Look forward to cutting it.... sort of.... I think there may be quartzie surprise in it

EXTREMELY cool Send it to someone that can make a polished sphere out of it for you! Ditto, great candidate since it is round. Bet that material makes a bloody mess.

I see your boat is keeping an eye on that red sphere, so nobody will cut it. It WANTS to be polished only!! I wonder if early man helped get that shape, and if so, why.
It's a keeper as is--- maybe with a little polish though.

Aye Pat that's a good question I looked it over pretty good but I'm far from a good observer and not very knowledgeable on artifacts so i think its all natural roundness but I did find a really interesting imprint in it I'll take a picture tomorrow stay tuned to this rock station....

you always ask the good tough questions amy 14" around-- which I guess is the circumference remember I'm just rock grinder don't know my muslin from my muslims
Its pretty round but also lopsided so I wonder what size the sphere would come out to? an 8" circumference sphere is pretty good size sphere... right?

Need to go dig out my old circumference rule.
According to the old circumference rule 8" C would equal just over 2-5/8" dia.
