Been a while since I've posted any projects. I have been wanting to try my hand with the dremal and new flex shaft, and carve some handles for my flintknapped blades to make some nice knives. Here is my first attempt. The blade is from a heated petrified wood slab and about 8" long. The antler is an elk tip and I carved the catfish into it. The knife is about 18" total in length. Thanks for looking! Dave

Sweet knife Dave. Removing the natural patina did the trick. Knapping off the chart.

Thanks James! The blade is my largest one yet. I have another Flint Rigde piece I am working on that should go over 9" if I don't break it. The carving is more like a tattoo, but I am working on three dimensional pieces too - much more challenging to make them look realistic instead of tribal.

I don't generally care for knives, but the knives I've seen on this forum are outstanding, yours included.
Is it useful, or is it decorative?
Thanks.

Thanks Rick!
Pat - This one is more for decoration with its size and carving, but it can be used. I have a couple of hunting friends that actually use them. I usually keep the edges dull for the display knives, but the others can be sharper than a metal blade.

What a beauty! I like the overall look. Very good choice for the antler handle, the grip must be excellent. And the carved catfish is the cherry on the cake.
