I have been looking for a short section of railroad track for a long time. Finally found one. Duh, walk the cross ties and you will find them. This one in coarse shape mode. Ready to move to 100 grit wet sand final shaping. A good bit of shaping needed. Then to polish. Then it will be welded upright to a 5" X 5" X 3/4" thick base plate. Contact cement 1/8" hard rubber to base. Easier to shape before welding to base plate. Draw back was metal seemed on the soft side. Will likely harden with usage and not crack. Should give plenty of finger access and elevation for elbow. Light and easy to move. Nice for delicate work up close.

Small hatchet head n a chunk of firewood is my Hillbilly Wire Twisting anvil. Wood absorbs shock n gives the metal a different look.

Bury the hatchet and go to work. Do you have the hammer side of the hatchet modified or was it good from the factory ?

How about 12 lb rail? Local is selling it in 12 inch lengths, already bought a bucket-o-spikes from him.

Lots of hardened surface in that $35 kit Jerry. Handy shapes, hammers a bit heavy. I would cut the hammer faces off and weld them to a plate them as anvils. Especially the pointed and chisel shapes. Hammer face steel great anvil metal. Gave me some ideas, thanks for sharing.
