Was snooping around on the internet and came across a gal selling estate clothing....With the clothing was some "Fordite"... I studied it and than pulled up prices of "Fordite" on the Ebay site.. It was going for crazy prices!!! The stuff she was selling came from a plant in Kentucky.... I do know that Ford has a trk plant down there and so does GM's for their Vettes... Got it for a steal, bought it all.......Should get it by Friday.....(Crossing fingers)... Someone beat me to the number 2 package....LOL

I purchased some of that a long time ago but do not believe it to be true fordite. Colors do not match and the material does not work up the same. The pieces I got were also much smaller then true fordite. It was good practice material but difficult to get decent sized cabs from.
The few pieces I did cab looked good and did sell but I had added a disclaimer about the unknown origin of the material.

I think I bought a pound of their stuff and this was my best piece. Too much white for my liking and not enough metallic but I think it sold because of the cool pattern. Chuck

Yep, that's the stuff I got. The issue was with the small diameter tubes it was attached too. Pretty hard to get a usable "slab" out of it. Cheap fun though.

The flip side of the bunch......I do see a lot of white.... I can live with that.... Here's a hint for you. Run masking tape around the pieces to form a "dam" and fill the hollows with Devcon plastic steel, or even JB Weld.. That way it adds a lot of strength to the piece, plus gives you a flat surface on the back to use a dop stick and wax. just be careful not to grind deep enough to go through all the layers of paint and into the fill material

Usually if it has alot of metallic colors in it then it came from a boat factory. After the fordite craze they started cleaning out old paint booths, boat factories (lots of these in the Great Lakes areas) and other similar places. The boat paint usually has flashier colors and metallics. I have heard several different names for it such as Mercuryite, Johnsonite, boat agate, etc. Most people just sell it as fordite because everyone knows what that is and it brings a better price.

My thoughts on the naming of the product, "Fordite" is that whatever the source this name is fine. The real question is the type of paint it is, lacquer, enamel, two-part vs 1-part, etc. how would one type work vs a different paint? Sadly I scraped up and threw away a few buckets of the stuff from the automotive paint stores I worked at in the 1989's.
