Jax and I went back out to the mine. Made a few side trips to another mine and an area that looked pretty interesting in the satellite photos but they were a bust. That took a lot of time and we were both hot and tired so only made one trip up the mountain to the mine this time. Still did pretty good. Jax is queen of the mountain. Found a nice spot full of chrysocolla chalcedony (silicated chrysocolla) L] Finding pieces reminds me of an Easter egg hunt. There were all sorts of small pieces of turquoise laying around on the ground above the mines. By the end of the day we got this for turquoise: And this for chrysocolla chalcedony: This was my favorite piece of the chrysocolla chalcedony: Been cutting it up. Really beautiful inside. Did run across a rattler that luckily Jax did not see. She likes to chase and eat lizards. I don't want her to mistake a rattler for a lizard:

Coming from the East coast, I'm always amazed to see nice rocks just sitting around. It's so nice to live vicariously through these trip pics. Love that last one! Glad Jax didn't see that rattler, too.

Close. Most of the copper ores in the area are mixed with a lot of dolomite. Either way. Arlen would like some. Thanks for the knowledge. Most of the turquoise is also covered on sides with limonite. In fact I find the majority of it in the limonite pockets, some in the dolomite and the rest in harder rocks like quartz. I slabbed up a bunch of it the other day because I am going to have some jewelry made for a friend with it. So I cut up a lot of the larger stones. What size were you thinking?

It's surprising Arlen hadn't spoken. He like turquoise in white.

It's surprising Arlen hadn't spoken. He like turquoise in white. I did not collect too much of that because the turquoise was so sparse in the matrix. There is more there in the mine and it is easy to get. It is in one section of the wall below where i am digging out the veins and the rock where the white is pulls way very easily. Not sure when I am going back yet though. Temps have been jumping up to 100F making to too hot to climbing up to the mine. We are expecting at least one day next week under 90F but I am thinking about going to another spot I want to check out that looks really promising.
