I may have said this before but read the book: The art of racing in the rain. Cool book, while you read it, you always have to remember that's it's the dog talking not as person. You will also understand the Title of the book.

I agree, that is a great book. I would also highly recommend it! Enzo...
It is one of a handful of books that I will pick up copies at thrift stores and swapmeets to give to friends.

Sometimes all 8 scream in harmony. Feeding time, not starving as they are butterballs.
The breeze alerted then to food prep prematurely. Their noses are very sensitive.
Almost 5 weeks and are going to the pen in a few days TG.

They are pack dogs and socially howl like coyotes and wolves.(origin African wild dog) My adults hate them until about 6 weeks of age when they can wrestle w/them.

Me sleeping way far away from the pup room. We have divided duties, pups is her bailiwick. I do the wrestling and aggravating. They need socializing so my involvement. Wife grumpy and tired, best not trifled with.

Those squeals hurt my ears! You are lucky to be sharing pup duties. And yes, they are darling : )

Wife worked full time first 10 litters and I took care of them. Strange, not a lot of accessible knowledge about having and raising pups. Even the vet field does not delve into the puppy process much. Lots of work. I am getting the good end.

Will the loudest one be the leader of the litter? Top Pup. Good question Bill. The quieter a dog the more it usually is all business. Like people in many cases. He is just a whinny baby. Barking as a threat is a sign of insecurity. A pit bull rarely barks because he can't sink teeth if he is running his mouth and they are just plain confident. Usually the runts are the pack leaders. Runts because they are busier and burn more energy. Active and agile. Potential customers always feel sorry for the runt but we know better. Try to sell runts to active or strong willed people. That candy ass male will have to go to experienced dog owners that know not to coddle him. They can turn him into a strong minded dog if they play him right. They all have right to whine. They had outgrown their whelping pen and Mom left them a week ago weaned. They are spending days outside in a temporary pen on the lawn. They won't cry anymore. will get attached to each other as playmates. About week 7 they will start being mean. Sounding like goolies. They are bad about grabbing a sleeping sibling by the ear and dragging him a few feet. That is a different type of crying-warranted lol. The skin around their neck will have dozens of pin prick scabs. Pecking order gets established then. The big bully always gets his clock cleaned by one(or two if necessary) of the average pups. The bullies loose. Nature has a way of reducing that characteristic. On the other hand, a soft temperament or two is produced. They get quiet or single homes.

Please don't take this wrong.. But me being deaf they could be right next to me and I would still sleep like a baby...Mr. Baby. Take the worse thing you have and make the best of it. Also, in the winter I move the rock tumbler in my bedroom so it don't freeze. Crazy
