With the new place (the small farm) we have been busy and time- and cash-limited to do much out and about this year. A few weeks ago I was traveling for work, and ended up with part of a day free before our flight home from far North Michigan. After checking in here, we went to Whitefish Point and spent an hour or so. I didn't find anything super interesting (no agates, for sure) but the area is cool and if you are close, certainly worth a visit. All the buildings require a museum ticket purchase to enter, except the gift shop, which has a very cool hand made super nice canoe donated by a patron. We walked the water's edge for a while and took in Lake Superior then headed back to the airport. Not really a destination of its own (unless you are SUPER into shipwrecks) but a cool place to stop and spend an hour or 2.

Hi, John! Great to see your new spread! I know that your entire family is enjoying the heck out of it.
Good to hear that you have at least been able to get away once (even if not into shipwrecks, lol).
Nice pics of the shoreline (and rocks!), now get your old house sold and start enjoying life again!!!

That water looks inviting. We don't have all those rocks like that. I think I would get a sore neck from looking down all the time.
Did the museum have anything about the Edmund Fitzgerald? I love that song. Hauntingly beautiful.

Nice pictures John. I stop by whitefish point at least once a year. I don't collect rocks there because it is mostly just granite by the bucket but it is fun to walk the beach and always a challenge not to pick up something. If you get a chance try to get over to nearby tahquamenon falls. The falls are really nice and there is a great hiking trail that follows the river from one set of falls to another. rockjunquie - The bell from the Edmund is on display at the museum and they usually have the video from the dive on the wreckage playing on loop. Here in Michigan that song is played a bunch every year around the anniversary.
