i know this has been asked before, but i can never find the info when i need it. i am making a 12" flat lap and need to know the rpm to use. should i say the sfm as that would be more usefull. i plan on using both diamond laps and loose grit. any info would be most helpfull.

if your going to use both diamond and loose grit i would suggest a speed control cause diamond pads need to turn much faster than loose grit

variable speed dc motors are expensive, that is way i am using an ac moter with step pulleys. so i need the rpms for both so when i make my pulley i can hit both ranges.

I think the old loose grit laps ran 600 or less. Otherwise it is a grit slinger. Once you try diamond you won't like the grit. Are you using magnetic backed diamond discs?

My 18 inch nelson grit dropper lap runs 145rpm, 683FPM at the edge, which works nicely. 215ish RPM will net you the same surface speed at the edge, don't know what it will do with the slurry though.
