Howdy folks, Last box of Brazilians up for sale and includes one Indian Blackskin agate. Big agate nodules in the four inch plus range. Brazilians will be mostly carnelian and banded. Blackskin looks to be a goody as outside shows fortifications and a nice area of eyes. Box weighs right about 22#. $65 delivered in US. First Pm takes it. Thanks for looking....Mel dry pic:  |

Bob, *L* Well the nodules are from the same batch I bought many years ago from a dealer not far from the San Diego wild animal park but since I've only ever seen one pic of plume in Brazilians ( in the Agate book) except for Jeremy's fantastic cuts, I'd rate the chance at plume pretty much zero. I was actually so excited by Jeremy's find that I set aside two small nodules from the lot that will fit my saw just in case lightning will strike twice *L*. But I doubt it will...Mel
Gulldanged it! Sun of a beatch! A dang scorpion or something just popped me in the neck twice and disappeared under my dang computer desk. Man Texas is one hostile danged environment!!!!!!!

You have scorpions indoors in Texas?  Or maybe your computer desk is outside? Hope they aren't venomous anyway. |

I hate scorpions. I killed one the other day in our bedroom. I've never been stung but both of my daughters have.

Yep, we live in a big stone house on a rocky hill that crawls with striped bark scorpions. Soon as it gets hot or cold, scorpions start finding there way inside the house, along with eight inch centipedes and a dozen other biting and stinging critters. Just part of Texas living and you come to accept it. Never go barefoot, always shake out clothes, boots etc. Bark scorpions are toxic but not lethal. Really painful and feel like someone has just put a cigar out against your skin. Mostly localized, though sometimes it will involve most of your limb, and not too long lasting but I got hit twice in the side of my neck last night and that really smarts and still hurts and itches like a bygod.. Wife holds the record though. She got popped right in the mouth when pulling a shirt over her head. She was really hurting after that one.
Said it before and it is very true, " In texas, if'n it don't bite, stang, or stank, it has thorns!" *LOL*.
Bob, Texas mosquitoes are actually quite small but I've never had them bite as hard, even in Alaska. Itty bitty suckers raise a half inch welt that actually burns in addition to itching..Mel

Perhaps your vast knowledge of insects attracts them to you ?
Scorpions-no thanks.
Hope all is well, getting bit on the neck is a bit close to the vitals.
Atlanta bugs don't seem to create hystimine al reactions, Florida bugs sure do.
Something about hotter climates and bugs.

I don't get histamine response in Cali but do ANY WHERE ELSE. New Hampshire mosquitoes swelled my hand so much I couldn't make a fist! Mel never have seen so many scorpions they get on my neck while typing... Wow... Pet stores all over the Northeast pay $5ea for those! $20 for the scolependra. Sounds like steak and boot money! |

Wondered about being acclimated to local bugs @shotgunner.
Not to mention I get bit a lot here at work.
The little deer flies in Florida are the worst, minor sting and huge reaction.
Bees hurt, but have no effect on me other than a bruising sensation.
Been stung by over 50 of those red wasps on more than one occasion(starts with a P'). Polistes, that's it.
God awful pain but no ill effects at all other than feeling like a boxer used you for a bag.
Some of the thickest densities of that red wasp's nests is in understory palmettos as the fans provide shade for them.

*L* Finally the sting has settled down. I got lucky yesterday too though, Was in a hurry to head out for the gym and PO this morning ad grabbed up my shoes. Knocked them out and a really large and very flat scorpion dropped out stone cold dead. Figure somehow, yesterday, I put my shoes on and squashed him with my foot without getting stung. Remember thinking I had a stick in m shoes but didn't bother to check it. The wife says I have the nervous system of a dinosaur. I can get whacked and react to it minutes later *L*. Anyway, I got lucky on that one. Stings on the bottom of the foots really hurt bad.
James. Deer flies here really are nasty too and the dang things are so disrespectful they don't even like to fly away if you disturb them. I hate them giant red Polistes too. Sting feels like getting hit by a 2 x 4, burns and swells up real bad for days, then itches for days more as it heals.....Mel
