Jax and I were out mining turquoise about a week ago when we came upon a new deposit. Made a second trip out there. Yielded about 300 pounds of turquoise before it really started to play out. Here is some of what we got and some cabs from polished faced pieces and cabs of the material. None of the material is stabilized. 20160914_142825 by James Sloane, on Flickr 20160914_155107 by James Sloane, on Flickr 20160919_133948-1 by James Sloane, on Flickr 20160919_133913-1 by James Sloane, on Flickr 20160919_133414-1 by James Sloane, on Flickr 20160919_133229-1 by James Sloane, on Flickr 20160919_133216-1 by James Sloane, on Flickr 20160919_133122-1 by James Sloane, on Flickr 20160919_133040-1 by James Sloane, on Flickr 20160919_133008-1 by James Sloane, on Flickr 20160919_132935-1 by James Sloane, on Flickr 20160919_132906-1 by James Sloane, on Flickr 20160919_141517-1 by James Sloane, on Flickr

Very nice , great colors, taking the family to albuquerque for the ball on festival, I was looking for any places to look for some of that, great cabs to, turquoise reminds me of being a kid and seeing the jewelry my mom and grandma wore, thanks for sharing,

Mind boggling
When you say "really started to play out", does this mean you got it all, or something better?

Mind boggling When you say "really started to play out", does this mean you got it all, or something better? I started out finding multiple large pieces every minute. Then after a few hours of digging it got to the point of maybe finding one small piece each hour. I am sure there is a lot more there hidden but I am going to go back to focusing on the first deposit for right now because I know there is still a lot there. I just need to figure out how to backpack some heavier equipment up the mountain because there are some really nice veins and a really big nodule I know of up there still. But a lot of the rock is so hard it takes a while to chisel out the pieces with a chisel and hammer.

Get one of those big freight bags with lift loops/straps, fill with rocks and rent a helicopter for an hour to come fetch it off the mountain for you. A couple/few hundred bucks to bring down thousands in rocks.

Get one of those big freight bags with lift loops/straps, fill with rocks and rent a helicopter for an hour to come fetch it off the mountain for you. A couple/few hundred bucks to bring down thousands in rocks. Getting the turquoise down is not that much of an issue. I have a large backpack I fill to the brim. Then I will add some more to a bag and carry it all down at once. So I average around 130 pounds each load and usually can make 2-3 trips a day. The problem is getting better equipment up to the mine. I would love to get my jackhammer up there. But it is electric and heavy. And the generator is a 6350 watt and is also very heavy. And I need to get a ladder up there so I can reach a couple of really great spots, including a large basketball size nodule. Can't drive up to the mine though so everything has to be packed up and packed back down. I am looking in to maybe getting a gas powered rotary hammer. The deposits I want are really close to the opening and will not take long to knock out so I don't have to worry about asphyxiation.

That is nice. I am a turquoise lover from my AZ days. What state are you finding it in?

I really need to get out of Chicago. The only thing I can "mine" around here would be the gravel between houses. Very nice!

Beautiful! Besides getting all that great turquoise you're staying in shape, too. Sounds arduous.

You can use battery powered on BLM. Good to know. Thanks. I am just concerned that the battery powered tools will not be strong enough to chisel through the rock. That is why I was looking at gas powered.
