When a load of rocks start to loose their mass from tumbling and you have to use filler like pellets, do you still fill with water to just below the top layer of rocks, or do you fill to just under the top layer of pellets? Thanks for any help.

'I' put water into about the middle or lower of the top layer of rocks and add pellets to fill to about 5/8ths - 3/4ths capacity. I try to error on the side of less water, rather than too much. ...NEXT!!

I start with my rocks in the bottom of the tumbler, followed by the grit or polish, then I put the pellets in and add water up to just below the pellet line. I figure if water causes rocks to smooth out then a little more water in the tumbler isn't going to hurt anything.

I go pellets first, then rocks, then polish or grit, the water just to the top of the rocks. I'm not looking for exact scientific accuracy and it's all going to get mixed up together anyway. I can't see where a couple tablespoons of water is going to make a difference one way or another.

I've got a vibe and I had problems at one time with the slurry getting very thick at the bottom, so now I mix the grit with some water and add it last. Seems to help. Especialy with prepolish.
