Bob, Texas has dino bone but it is uncommon, mostly because most of Texas was an ocean during the dino periods. The Jurassic is especially absent but there is bone from the Triassic and Cretaceous. We have a lot of dino tracks here locally as they walked the beaches here in the distant past. Bone is most common in the Big Bend region . A lot of the central Texas bone is Mosasaur rather than land form reptiles too. A neighbor of mine used to have quite a bit of Mosasaur bone he had found locally but it was not showy at all, just earth tones like our local chert. That being said, the only "pretty" Texas dino bone I've seen was not even dino bone but rather dino bone wood ( pocket rot wood). I've looked at a bunch of Rio material, and that's where I'd expect to see some gem bone, but every piece that looked to be bone was actually pocket rot wood or some other cellular looking agate that only sort of mimicked bone. There is even a rhyolite that really really looks like bone. his pic sucks but on the exterior especially, this rhyolite really looks like gem bone. Never seen or heard of Texas coprolite, though I don't know why there would not be some around cause dinos have to poop after all.....Mel Thought this stuff from west Texas was dino bone but now I'm thinking dino bone wood.

Going off topic for a post here to show the t-egg that I cut from the box packed full of them that I received from Diane drocknut . I like the green border between the matrix and the agate interior. Very cool. Then there is this "thing" going right across the center of this double egg. Not sure what caused that, but I find it very interesting. Looking forward to cutting more of these babies soon! May have to go on an egg buying spree, these things are pretty neat! Thanks again Diane! You're welcome captbob. That is cool looking, glad it wasn't a dud.

Tried to mix up the variety. This batch being coarse ground in a 6 pound tumbler. The variety there makes rock hunting a treasure hunt. Not much moss agate, just jasper, wood and chert.

They often started growing deep in the throat of high-silica volcanoes so each half often came from different parts of the flow. Where in the journey did they come together, and when did they expand and the fill begin? They have much to tell!

Dang, James, you got some pretty sweet slices there.
I like the contact sheet, too. I can do similar with my old PS6, but it ends up taking me too long.

Can you make those sheets where the photos are clickable to enlarge? May be a learn to walk before trying to run kinda thing... Try this link in a flickr mode Bob. Right click to magnify. Then move mouse around to move photos around. It's not dialed in just right but has decent enlargement. It is a one photo album. Could easily do multiple photos. www.flickr.com/photos/67205364@N06/30995231692/in/album-72157672825225054/A two photo album. You may consider a flickr account, it's fine photo hosting site. www.flickr.com/photos/67205364@N06/30318091104/in/album-72157672825225054/Fooling around with contact sheets for this forum due to having to enter individual photo addresses. A contact sheet of 8-12 photos has only one address. One address, 8 photos
