In Tucson, my bf picked out a very nice piece of aquamarine rough for his father's girlfriend...but it turns out she wanted a rough crystal, not facet rough. Well, we were saddled with it anyways, AND it our birthstone, so I faceted for him. One of our long-distance routines is watching through old episodes of Star Trek, so when I came across this design, I thought it was perfect. It's one of the best performing stones I've cut, as a bonus! Finished at 8.0mm on the dot, 1.4 carats. Maybe we'll get it set and keep it as a suncatcher in his car, we'll see. In the morning dawn light, it looks more blue-green than it is. Cloudy noon - this is a much more accurate color.

Yet another amazing stone Michelle.
How long does the whole process take from start to finish?

Yet another amazing stone Michelle. How long does the whole process take from start to finish? I probably spent ~3 hours picking out this stone from the parcel, inspecting it, and finding a design that I liked that fit the rough. Initially, it looked like a hexagon was the best fit, but upon further inspection there was a crack that necessitated a trillion. So at the end, it was a toss-up between Star Trek Trillion and Pedantic Sophistry. The test cuts of the latter didn't look great, so I went with STT. Getting the stone dopped and the actual process of cutting took about 6 hours. This aqua was super well-behaved and prepolished/polished super quickly - the fastest I've ever done that step. However, I think there is a slight misalignment in my transfer or my machine, which meant that I had cut and polish each crown facet individually and make adjustments to every facet to get the meetpoints right.
