Watching this video on cutting a hole through glass I was wondering if anyone had any ideas to adapt it through stone, Has anyone tried this? Maybe the waxing or glueing the cabachon to a thick piece of glass or stone. He also used a suction water dam to hold water, the larger size you could have three or 4 cabachons glued to a slab or glass and still be inside the dam. I have messed with sponges, foam but still will get blow outs. Any Ideas or reasons this wont work for cabs?

That makes perfect sense. I would think a simpler method could be to use spring clamps to hold a junk slab underneath to minimize the blow out.

Are you simply trying to drill a hole in a stone without back blowouts?

Here it is: You'll need a dremel, dremel workstation, home made silicone mold, water, a container to hold water and mold, and diamond core bits the size you want your hole to be. , , , , , ,

Small scale operation. The workstation moves in all kinds of directions (up&down like a mini drill press), you can adjust depth, it also hold and turns the dremel side ways an I use it (with variable speeds) to grind or buff small jewelry metals. Handy little thing!!

toiv0, I forgot, to keep the stone from blowouts 1. You go very slow backing it in an out just like a drill press. 2. Duck tape or I use packing tape on the back of the cab.

Thanks Ms melhill1659, I just seen a tutorial on the silicone molds for soap making. Great Idea.

Another option would be the moldable thermoplastics. You can find them just about everywhere on the web now. Whats nice about this stuff is you can reheat and reuse as often as you like. That way you don't need to limit the shape of your molds. I have some and it works really well. This is what I have: Thermoplastic

Thanks Ms melhill1659, I just seen a tutorial on the silicone molds for soap making. Great Idea. fantastic5 also, I make my own molds this way cause they are just so cheap to make. Rub a little baby oil on the back of the stone before pushing it into the mold. It makes it easy to remove after adding the hole.

Ive done that once in my life. I used a dremel and a diamond bit with water. It was cone shaped and the end went down to a sharpe point. I slowly drilled the hole until it barely broke thru the other side. The turned it over and repeated the same thing. The hole had a nice bevel on both sides, no sharp edges. But very slow, not in any hurry.

Walmart sells a clary that you can harden it in you oven. Don't know if that helps but a FYI.
