Got a dwarf Alberta spruce & all the bottom branches were dead. Wife says "You need to cut those off & trim it up". Got the chainsaw & did as instructed. Now it's "Ewww, will branches grow back?" Told her yes but it takes a while.....

Told her yes but it takes a while..... Have seen and trimmed many spruce in my day. Have never seen lower branches grow back. So you are right. it will be awhile ..............................MrP

For some reason , doing as instructed always gets me in trouble . Look at it this way , the tree is so much easier to trim around .

The tree looks like my two boys when my wife said take them to get their hair cut and get it out of their eyes and off their ears. Well it was and then some!! The boys were happy and so was I until we got home!!
Never do what your wife says, do what she means!!

Don't know about your weather there but we are in the middle of wood borer flight period. Best to tree seal those fresh cuts before the borers find them nice attractive cuts and lay eggs.....Mel

MrMike It will grow back in your humidity. You are already seeing the trunk get lots of little green growth tips. The speed depends on how many growth pushes you have in that climates. I get 4 pushes a season but after it gets hot the growth stops for the year. Bet Oregon climate gets twice that. It will always look funny. Tell people that its a baby, giant redwood and you'll help it get its respect back.. hehehe
