The brown with subtle shades of brown jasper that I find in the grasslands polishes well, but it's, well, kinda brown. The desert or prarie jasper (can't remember the name) sold on The Rock Shed is amazing and less expensive tHan other material. It also forms quicly: it's on that boarder with just hard enough to polish well.
As far as buying stuff, I think the Desert Jasper is the best bang for the buck.
Gather no moss, Colin

A few good ones mentioned. Everyone of them can be in poor quality though. Or poorly shaped for tumbling. Or porous and pitted, especially around the rind.

As Stimpy would say "Whilikers." That thing might beat everything in my modest collection.

Just started rolling 12 lbs of smallish low quality Lakers......they will probably end up mostly as fill for later batches. Hopefully a couple will make the grade, but yeah it's all about the quality of the rough.
