I picked up a little piece somewhere along the way - never really liked the looks of it till I started grinding on it today. It has a fascinating chatoyancy in the silver cells that Ive never seen in dino bone. I'll post a video soon too. Video is crappy - doesn't really show the 'flash' but you get the picture.

Cool! For some reason, in some bone, hematite tends to accumulate in the cell walls and even the chalcedony parts or maybe that's actually psilomelane like in crown of silver. Whatever, it sure can give some nice silvery flash. That cab is a beauty!....Mel

I have several small slabs of similar bone with a lot of hematite as well. I plan to try and gold plate a cab of it to see what it looks like. Great cab

That's an amazing cab! I posted a cab like that here, too. A lot of people thought it might be opal.

Calcite pocket filled cells in dino bone can sometimes be chatoyant too.

Calcite pocket filled cells in dino bone can sometimes be chatoyant too. Larry C. That gets my vote - the small slab degraded into a crumbly side that was a lot less red and a lot more of the cells had the silver in them. Quite soft.

That is a very special and spectacular cab! I sure hope you get lots of $$$ for it, as in my book, I'd have to keep it!
