The kid and I found this material along a ridge by Kingsley mi. I think it's slag but unsure of use and value. Moss green to dark green in color. Thanks for looking Frank flic.kr/s/aHskZaUb6y

Difficult to tell from the photos. I've seen some chalcedony that looks similar, though don't know whether it occurs in that area. You might want to face a few pieces and look for interior bubbles.

Could be slag, I agree to chip a couple up. I have seen slag glass where they have small foundry to melt vehicles down. It comes from the windows. But you found it where there is nothing like a road? Also a lot of times it is found near water since the smelter need water.

I found it along a old railroad bed, makes me think it was used as a base maybe to conserve stone needed for the actual railway bed. I was gonna bring some home to Knapp up maybe or but in the rock garden lol

Never thought about that, but in northern Michigan ? More likely slag, but although most MI chalcedony occurs with bands (agate), plain chalcedony in those colors isn't impossible. That area has mostly limestone bedrocks, but there are also glacial deposits carried down from further north. The only other translucent material from that area of which I can think is anhydrite, which I suspect would have severely weathered exposed in a rail bed.
