Know I saw a thread about the best way to remove marker from rocks. Just cannot find it now. This AM, I did the below experiment. A photo chart of each step is at the end. This was marked over a year ago. 1. Before 2. With Awesome Cleaner left sitting on it for 5 minutes. Then used a green scrubbie for 3 minutes. Left side only. 3. Kaboom. Left on for 5 minutes. Then used scrubbie for 3 minutes. Both sides. 4. Acetone fingernail polish with paper towel for 2 minutes. Both sides. 5. After lightly using a soft pumice stone, 3 swipes/edge. Both sides. So, I would guess that a 15 minute soak in Kaboom Shower, Tub and Tile Cleaner, then using a scrubbie, would work on harder rocks. Kaboom was the only thing I could find to remove the soot on my Granite fireplace that the former owners were nice enough to leave for me. Below are ingredients in each cleaner. Did not list for the fingernail polish remover. Awesome Cleaner Label Ingredients: Orange Oil Blend Ethoxylated Alcohol Disodium Salt Tetra Sodium EDTA Hydroxy Sodium Kaboom Label Ingredients: Water Glycolic Acid Citric Acid Sodium Octylsulfonate Sodium Polyacrylate Fragrance Denatonium Benzoate Technical Names: Water Hydroxyacetic Acid Citric Acid (INCI) Sodium 1-octanesulfonate Sodium Polyacrylate (INCI) Fragrance Bitrex (Trade Name) Function: Solvent Cleaning Agent pH Adjuster Preservative Surfactant-Cleaning Agent Sequestrant Fragrancing Compound Bittering Agent

Rubbing alcohol removes sharpie in a heartbeat.
That is unless the ink is integrated into the stone.

I think these sat too long. Some might be a little soft as well. 30 minutes in the Kaboom and a pumice stone and most were OK.
