I have hiked a bit in Death Valley, mostly before my lapidary days. I know Indian Paint rock comes from there, and was wondering if any of you guys know where the deposits were located. I may have walked by it.
Since you cannot collect from there any longer, does anyone have an idea what is a decent price for rough. Am headed to Quartzsite next month and will be on the lookout for some.

Like any rock, it is worth what you (or someone else) is willing to pay.

The old collecting site was near Saratoga Springs at the base of the Ibex Hills in southern DVNM. It used to be outside the park but is now inside and no collecting is allowed anywhere in the park...Mel

I'm told there is a new spot. Same material. Outside the park.
In Nevada. I am on it's case. Have some leads. Hoping for success this winter.

Good luck @shotgunner, I'm always interested in a good treasure hunt story!
