YouTube has lots of movies showing sinkholes. They are scary looking. Worm holes to the middle earth where the munchkins live. We don't have sinkholes here But we have Quick Sand and It's scary too. Out on the spit at low tide You take a step and the bottom Starts to jiggle like you're Walking on Jello Kind of weird to look at.

Lake Peigneur drilling accident Imagine the debates when, a million years from now, some rockhound finds a unique stone that only occurs in one small area. Or even in few thousand years when an archeologist discovers an intact barge buried deep in the earth.

An interesting documentary about the geology of sinkholes Seems to bum out around 37 minutes then no sound. Repeated tries with no success. Thanks for the link. Interesting stuff up to then. We have sinkholes here too 🤔

It was interesting how all those old mine workings are failing and causing problems.

Here is the Devil's Throat sinkhole in the Mojave desert near Mesquite, NV. This thing just suddenly opened up in the mid 90's. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to witness that. I flew my drone over it:

It was interesting how all those old mine workings are failing and causing problems. I live in an area that is riddled with old mines. Although sinkholes are very rare, it's common for subsidence to cause major problems to structures built above them. The old maps are often inaccurate or nonexistent. Pre-construction core borings sometimes reveal mines that no one knew were there.
