Normally at this time of year, we are all praying for rain in this part of Texas. Right now, I'm praying that no one else gets washed away! Our little Medina river is once again on a rampage, and more rain is predicted for the next few days. No one that I know of has washed away during this rise, but 3 folks vehicles were washed off during the last 2 rises. The drivers were all recued safely!
Bob, are you doing OK? Looks like most of the rain that is coming thru here is heading straight for S.A.
We're OK, but pretty 'soggy', and will be running out of beer and cigs. soon if the river doesn't go down! Darn the bad luck! ;D

BE, your just gonna have to start surplusing cigs and beer, this looks like an ongoing thing for awhile. Get a bunch of TV dinners so there's more room in the fridge for beer. Cigs are cheaper by the carton anyway. Stay dry and safe. cookie

Shorty, thanks, but I've got a 17' canoe. Not that i'm planning on putting that in the river right now! However, I'm kinda startin' to think about building an ark with all the weathered wood that's stacked in my yard.! Any of y'all have any plans for one of those? By the time that I figure out by myself how to build one. we'll be either in a drought or already plum washed off the map! BE

Seems like it was "30 cubits, by 60 cubits, by 100 cubits". I lost the manual And you have to keep reminding the rabits "Only two, only two..." cookie

Thanks, Cookie! But what the heck is a cubit? And I really wasn't planning on taking all those animals with me. Just Happy, Dobie, Katy, Mila, Nibbles, and Melanie...........oh yeah, and my 2 legged critter, Stephen!

BE....we are having lots of rain over here in the SE part of Tex also...so don't send any of your rain this way.. ;D..hope we get some decent weather for July 4th...maybe by then all of this 'mess' will have moved out of here and we'll be back to 'normal' summer weather...of course, the upside from all of this rain is lots of new rocks will wash up..somewhere..

I have really tried not to complain too much about the rain because I know that in the not too distant furture we will be desperate for rain and not get it. But, after a month of rain almost every dang day, I AM SICK TO DEATH OF RAIN! We have had only 12 days of sun all of June. Water, water everywhere. I am sick of tracking mud in the house and/or truck everytime I go outside. We have been under flash flood warning every day for the past week. I did get to town this AM, then was able to get back home. Water wasn't over the bridge or road then, but a couple hours later when I was going back to town to go clean the horse stalls, the road was closed. No water over the bridge - just water over the road leading to the bridge where the dam at the gravel pit busted last time. A lot of the water that would have normally gone over the bridge is now being diverted and going across the road before the bridge. And more is on the way according to the weather reports. We MAY get a bit of sunshine for the weekend. I am so wanting to hitch up the 5'er and go someplace where the sun is shining! I need some sunshine! Got Shorty's walking stick to finish - can't use that tung oil/polyurethane finish in the house - two wood plant containers to put together and a platform birdfeeder. All my rock buckets are full of water and prime mesquito breeding grounds, there is mud all over my outdoor carpet out the front door, my potting soil is all wet - the place is a dang mess outside and no sense in even trying to clean it up til the rain stops. Did that last week and now it looks like it hasn't been done in months! Two years ago July 3rd my house was carried off it's foundation and down the creek when it flooded. Needless to say, I am really glad I am on higher gound now! End of Rant!

Man, I feel bad for you guys down there, stay safe will ya? The weather has been weird up here too, it feels like fall at night with temps getting down into the 40's still lately. It's almost July for goodness sake, we've had a mess of rain this year too, can't keep up with the grass, it should be slowing way down by now. Good luck down there, later, Don

Llana, do you have a problem with west nile virus there? GET THE DDT! in GA it's a problem, any standing water needs to be sprayed. We have had alot of rain but we were also at a deficet for the year so it's mostly a pain in the be-hind, bad for business. Poor Max, can't play with his golf ball If you need anything, let us know. Can't promise cigs and beer, but wer'e here. cookie

We're OK so far. We are still under a flash flood watch until this afternoon. It rained hard for about 5 hrs yesterday here where I work, on the Northwest side of San Antonio. At my house on the Southeast side I only had 1 inch in the rain gauge.
Haven't heard anything about the River Walk flooding, but it takes a whole lot of rain for that to flood. Several years ago the city spent mega-bucks to build an underground tunnel to divert flood waters away from the Riverwalk area to protect the tourist industry. Meanwhile they let developers build sub-divisions where ever they want with not much thought on where the water will go when it rains. The water usually winds up in older sorrounding nieghborhoods causing flooding.
I live by a creek and so far it seems to be behaving itself. I've lived there for almost 20 yrs. and have only seen it at true flood stage one time back in 1998.
The rain is supposed to let up after today if the weatherman is correct. If it doesn't we will have a repeat of the July 4th flood that we had 2 yrs ago. We just can't handle any more big down pours.
Everybody have a great weekend. Have fun and be careful.
Bob

I think the weatherman was incorrect. I believe that the rain will end BEFORE the end of the day. There are blue skies to the west and the majority of the rain has moved to the east. It's 10:45 AM CDT here and I'll bet we have clear skies by 1 or 2 PM. Just in time for the weekend. Bob

y'all do be careful. we are getting the rain but we don't have that flooding. the bayou that runs through our front yard is normally dried up at this time of year and i can mow where it was but not so this year. the mosquitos are unbelievable. its like one of those horror movies where you are being attacked in droves. you open your car door to get in and they all get in too. our 10 day forecast shows rain every day but sun and mon. kim

I live in Dallas and have always wanted to move to Seattle some day, but after 19 straight days of rain - FORGET THAT!! No wonder they have one of the highest suicide rates in the nation...
No real flooding by us, it's just annoying when we have three dogs that can't go outside without tracking in mud...AAARGH!
Good thing our house is mostly tile...

Well, the river went down enuf that I could go to town this evening. I'm all stocked up now........so now it will probably quit raining, and that would be GREAT!
Last night at dark the highway was still closed, then we had more than another 2 inches of rain overnight. I fully expected all of the roads to be closed this morning, but they weren't. The highway was open past where I needed to go to work. However, when I got onto the ranch that I was supposed to work at this morning, I couldn't get across the creek to get to the house. After a slight delay, the owner came out to get me in his 4WD, one ton dually. Going back across the creek, I could feel the back of the truck slipping. Sure was glad to get across and back on land! When he brought me back out this evening, the water had gone down some so it wasn't quite as scary!
So, everything considered, today has been a very good day!

Hi BE , sorry to hear about the flooding. My previous farm ( ranch) was along a river which flooded regular. only 15% was above flood level. What type of farm do you work on? Has it got any good rocks to throw around haha , you could build a dyke with them haha
Take care and good luck with the weather.

it looks like from the weather channel that y'all may be fixing to get a break - course like shorty i don't take much stock in that as they change it every time i change the channel ;D. we got our yard mowed in spite of the grass being wet. i think my husband felt compelled to bring his workers and get it done at lunch when i was talking about doing it myself and using a cane to push the clutch. whatever works . kim
