I was watching some really nice Morgan Hill on ebay. A supposed old time collector was letting some things go. Man, oh man, did those prices go up in the last few seconds!!!! It was fun just to watch. Here's one. It went from like 40.00 to 180.00 in less than a blink. I think the highest was like 250 for a little slab. Makes me not want to cut what I have.

Not me. That slab doesn't even look very nice, except the top part. Those people got the fever! I only buy that stuff in person, due to the fractures. And even then, I get it home and say "boy I was sure optimistic about my stabilization abilities!"

It had to be a just a handful of people who got in a bidding war. The prices on MH are crazy, but not THAT crazy.... or are they?

No, they're not THAT crazy. I could see that slab being worth like 35 maybe, just because it's big. Maayyybe. Did you see the BIN one for 700 in the "you may also like" section? Now THAT one, I could see going for a couple hundred. Again though, not 700, unless it was unfractured (which it wasn't).
There are a couple of random sellers posting their stuff at ridiculous prices too - like 150 for a botswana agate - not sure why. Very strange.

Sometimes, it's just plain amusing to look at what's on auction. I get a kick out of all the adjectives used... FABULOUS- INCREDIBLE- EXTRAORDINARY- FASCINATING! Dude, they're rocks. I mean, I like a nice rock, too, but damn. And then there's the sellers who think everything with orbs is OJ. I did get a good deal from someone like that, though. He had a Guadalupe he called oj for pretty cheap. I was happy with that "OJ".

Lol. Yeah. At Quartzsite, I got a pretty nice piece of rhodochrosite that the seller thought was wood for some reason. I hate when the title of the auction has adjectives in it too - or the word Wow!.

Saw that there was another slab of the same material for $700!! Is that some kind of joke or is it an intelligence test?

What is wrong with people?? As Susan said that slab isn't even very nice - I wouldn't waste $20 on it. I have quite a bit of the *really* nice stuff all cut up in cabochon sized pieces. Maybe I should reverse strategy and sell them on Ebay? lol

Reminds me of a fish and game auction I went to around 1970. They had a 22 rifle that sold new for $56. I thought I could pick it up for ~ $25.
I left when the bidding passed $150. People lose their minds.

I am curious to know who the buyers are?? Are they headed over to Asia? I am not that knowledgeable about what is worth the $ and what isn't, but this seems a ridiculous price.

I've been watching the auctions from the girl with the 700 slab. She has had a bunch on auction that went nuts, too. After a few wild ones she listed some BIN.

I was thinking the same thing about the word 'RARE'. When my son was in elementary school he collected Pokemon cards, and I swear that every one was RARE. After that the word 'rare' became a joke in our house.
