Hello, everyone!
I finished these days some work and I'd like to share with you here the result, as well as the story behind. It's a bayonette from WWI on which I added a stone handle. The stone handle is made of three stones having red, yellow and blue colors. These are the colors of the Romanian flag. The whole project is intended to be a tribute to the soldiers in WWI who made possible the "birth"of our nation as it is now, one hundered years ago, at the end of WWI (in 1918).
As I wanted to get a bayonette from first world war, I was in a doccumenting visit at our Military Museum, where I pictured some bayonettes from that time. Luckilly, I saw on a wall in the museum a big photo with a high rank officer deccorating some soldiers and I spotted a way to display the bayonette, overlapping it over a cerefully scaled picture, such as the picture and the bayonette itself to match the size.
The bayonette I bought after that visit was very simmilar to the ones I saw in the museum. It was not in perfect shape though, not having the wooden scales of the handle at all, but this didn't bother me at all.
Well, enough intro. For those of you who would like to find out a bit more about our history at that time, here's a link:
The pictures of the creation will be added by Tela, whom I thank very much for her help.
Thank you for looking,
Adrian

The politics behind wars is confusing. My father's immigrant great grandfather was German. The entire family was ethnically German. Now, the ones who are left in the Old Country are French. Alsace Lorriane went back and forth between countries pretty often. I have been in touch with a family who are in France. They are very French. Great people, but they identify as French, not German.
I watched the video, but it ended by saying the Romanian plan was a rare case of fantasy becoming reality without going any more into it. Do you have a link about that, presumably decisive, battle?

There were some battles in the summer/aughtumn of 1917 but couldn't find any movies in English about them. Maybe if you're lucky you can search for Marasesti, Marasti and Oituz battles. Adrian

I spent a summer studying in Strasbourg. Definitely a mix of German and French influences. Another summer spent in Rennes and it was a totally different feel. Very cool project, adrian65!

My immigrant ancestor went to seminary in Strasbourg. He was assigned as a Reverend in the US to minister to the German speaking people of the Plains. He settled first in Nebraska and ended up in California.

What a wonderful way to honor the birth of your nation! And you've created a keepsake at the same time. I can imagine, in a hundred years, someone on a rock board showing that bayonette saying that their great grandfather added the stone handle as a tribute 100 years after the war.
