This is a rock walled rock and glass shop being organized and played out slowly. Better known as the 'Dungeon'. Heat pump, water heater, freezer and wood stove keeps it toasty. Got water, 200 amp panel, receptacles galore being installed to organize wiring. Bought a larger used glass furnace yesterday and had to figure out which way the stainless work table was going. Stainless biggun on left of table, small blue kiln on right. Tile saw and lapper will go around the corner to keep the glass free of overspray from grinding Stock and misc. tool shelf Roll around tool and stock boxes, temporarily floating around. Large box being filled with glass jewels.

Very cool. I don't miss much from Chicago except my sisters, but I sure do miss having a basement. Not many basements around here. The caliche makes them too expensive.

Compact and bright little buggars. Easy to install. Hanging Romex for kilns, having to pre-drill hard beams for the wire staples. Fishing wire into 200 amp, grrrr. Rather be having teeth pulled. You must be coming out of hibernation with the rest of the wooly bears.

Dang they have pretty agate and wood. Yea, the basement is not pretty but is wettable, dirtyable, temperate and full of utilities.

Should be a nice cool place to work in the hot summer months. Chuck Heat OK, cold not OK. You are correct, that basement is in ground and cool during scalding summer heat. It reaches max warmth at 4AM and max cold at 4PM, 12 hours out of synch w/outside temps go figure. I have this gut feeling that little shop and the tumblers across the way are going to roll in some income from the glass. Got a web domain name gemglass.biz, Email gemglass. and an Etsy shop name secured for gemglass. Wife will make WIX website and tie it into commerce tools of Etsy. Guessing it will be quite a colorful website/Etsy shop. Will see...

jamesp in his new dungeon shop.
Haha! Just has a Silence of the Lambs feel to it. No matter, it's functional and might just bring in that extra income you're hoping for.

Part shipment got delayed by a couple lousy feet of snow out east . Back in business . Hoping for an early spring , like maybe July . Gotta love the new lighting technology these days , still going to save the candles though for backup . Running wires into the box isn't one of my favorite projects either . Always envision me being a roman candle . Really impressed by the glass you're turning out . But the drool running down my back from momma wigglin looking over my shoulder is getting out of hand .

I must say I prefer your "Dungeon" as a rock/glass haven over a brightly painted, decal clad, hospital clean museum. I can just tell there's magic going on down in that murky mad laboratory. Dr. Frankenglass, I presume.

There is a floor grill MsAli and Garage Rocker that I lift up to drop beer and food down to deer hunters when they sleep down there. One time they both got the flu so me and wife were serving them thru the floor grill hole that lets the wood stove heat up into the house. There was another couple staying here. We were laughing upstairs about poor Bob and Virgil 'the contagious ones' in the lamb cellar. One door in and one door out. 2 foot thick full circumference rock wall, no escape except that one door. I see an iron gate retrofitted to the door. To keep my company contained(drooling). Great place to preserve skin too. Potatoes for months, great root cellar.

Save this post in case any deer hunters go missing in Georgia

jamesp, excuse me while I get gushy. My first thought upon seeing your merry dungeon was of happiness. I'm tickled to death to be watching your new passion blossom into a business. What a great transition for you. This is something you'll be able to do for years. You'll be nice and comfortable, too. Love your little hideaway laboratory. I can't wait to see your glassgems flying off the shelf. I really admire how you have jumped right in with both feet. You go, Boy!!!

Dr. Frankenglass, I presume. The ultimate compliment "Dr. Frankenglass" This area was a thriving community till 1870 when they put a train/bridge over the river. Mule drawn ferries all shut down and the area became severely depressed from the on-longer-used trade routes. Fine rock chimneys litter the 4000 acres behind this property so we collected a half dozen of them and laid this footing wall. Many of the families still live around here and they gave us permission to get them. Kinda cool to know that these rocks kept those families warm long ago. They harvested a good many of the chimney rocks from the granite exposures on this property. So many made a return to where they were collected. Lot of sentiment in the wall of rocks.

Time has come to commission that space. Had sorta prepped it a good while back. Was hoping something would come along that would put it to good use. The view out from down there under the deck is cool to, a panorama of the small creek and mature hardwoods, often a deer or two.
