I thought I'd post a pic up of what I get at absolute best with Cerium and Tiger Eye. Looking closely - I get the feeling that the angle of the "grain" is causing the difficulty in the polishing. The one on the left (whilst the photo doesnt quite show it unfortunately) has a higher sheen than the one on the right - which has its grain running more "down the face". The one on the left has its bands cutting out into the face at almost 90 degrees - almost like looking at the end of a piece of wood cut along the grain. I'm needing to buy some tin oxide asap - as ive stopped this tumble now after 6 days in Cerium. I'll put them in the tin and get another closeup shot to see if they improve by any measurable amount. Ok - laters all. Cheers Andy.

:oHoly Cow Andy Those are Huge!!, how'd you get those in a tumbler? Wait a minute... Oh I see, ...a close up ;D Well, I must say I have grown to really like 'Tin Oxide' on softer stones. (Obsidian and Tiger Eye pretty much covers my limited spectum of softer stones so far) I'll still stick with Titanium on the hard ones. But cerium seems to be a good all around polish. I think they look great! They have the look of polished oak, at this size, Sort of like canoe paddles. I'd like to see you post the pix, after the tin oxide. I'd be a great comparison. Plus, I'd really don't think any one else is ever going to get that close to the stone and find any fault. With out my glasses (or contacts) all my stones look brilliant!!!!

Hi Sands, how you doin? Ok - the 80 went for 7 recharges at 4 days a run. So about a month. Some of the bits are really thin - a few flats formed as there wasnt much material left in the barrel by the end of it. One day I swear I'll get some tiger eye to lose its angular shape - they have that characteristic slant on them dont they. Somehow different than everything else I tumble. Impatience got the better of me here though - aswell as the fact i'd lost so much so I took em out and let the blighters chill in the 220.

Banjo - I stuck them in a Cement Mixer One of those trucks which turns as it goes Yup - will post pictures of comparison when done - I think they need to be taken under sunlight aswell to get them sharper - these were taken under little spotlights and they blurred a bit. "Plus, I'd really don't think any one else is ever going to get that close to the stone and find any fault." LOL - yeah but I get to look close and it just aint good enough....

Ya know Andy- I've been toying with the idea of filling a Cement Mixer with Great Big Boulders and grit. Then driving from New York to California and selling these huge polished rocks to the 'Hollywood types' as lawn ornaments. I bet they'd sell like 'Ice Cubes in Hell'. I see dollar signs. Of course you would see pound signs. ;D Who wouldn't pay big money for a polished Agate the size of a Buick? Michael Jackson would, I bet!!

Good idea -
Ok, who's going to switch the barrels and give them a good scrubbing between grits?
I know - we could stick Jacko in it with his leathers on and turn it on for a few hours. That should clean it out - wouldnt do much for his leathers though.
;D

Nice work Andy. I'm confused about all this talk about cerium not doing the job. I was having trouble with titanium but after a 4 day tumble in 1000 grit they looked good with cerium. You might want to put them back in pre-polish before you go to tin. Better safe then sorry. Hard stone to polish...

I don't know about anybody else but that satin finish looks great on those stones.

Hey Andy! Nice Tiger eye! Looks great to me! Of course I had to go outside and look in a window to see them at normal size...lol. I need a bigger puter screen. Sweet job buddy, later, Don
