Well, that's pretty darned impressive! Are you sure it's sandstone? Looks more like quartzite or maybe even chalcedony in a giant geode to me? Very cool at any rate. You should get a 500 lb capacity tumbler and tumble it whole!!

That is a neat piece Jack, good job on it. Interesting rock. What we call sandstone up here would never polish like that, you can carve it with a pen knife, very soft stuff. Talk to you later, Don

Hi Kim, the size of that rock is 10"x8" and I cut it with a slabsaw see pictures. I have cut some more rocks already and polished. I have cut quite a few slabs of rocks , some of which may not be suitable to polish. I am hoping to make a nice surround for my fireplace eventualy. I still have to start polishing the slabs. But have been away on holiday to Europe this time. I polishes the heavier pieces first to get the feel of the machine and learn about the pitfalls. With too many pieces on at once I get damage and grit falling on the polish area which prevents a nice polish. I am learning ;D Here some pics of polished rock Have a great time on july 4 Jack

That's fantastic stuff! And you actually find rocks like that just laying around on the ground? I'd better go get me a plane ticket to New Zealand!
