I haven't post any pics in a while so here are some cabs that I just started. Will post pics when they are done. The green, orange, the tear-drop and the black and red I have no idea what they are. The other one is crazy lace agate. That one I know. If you know what these are let me know. Thanks Brett

I have no idea what they are, however the edges of the preforms for the cabachons show classic fracturing. When I do my cabachons, I grind them from the base to the top. Kind of a pullling motion. I grind them upwards. I still get the occasional chip and have to grind deeper however with fragile stones I do not split them off like I used to. I have tried using my faceter preformer and unless I really spend a long time going from 180 to 320 laps, I still get chips. They look real good and they are going to make some beautiful stones to set. Good luck with them.

Seriously, I don't know what kind of rock they are, but they are all pretty! That last one is a beauty! Is this your first try at cabs?

Hey Brett, It is hard to say what they are, without being able to physically look at them and see actual makeup of the material. The teardrop is agate - most probably Brazilian Agate The green piece may be a form of agate, moss agate, jasper or petrified wood. The red piece looks like some form of poppy jasper or possibly a form of flower agate. As far as the other piece it hard to say. They should turn out very nicely. Are you using a silicone carbide wheel or a diamond wheel? Enjoy, John
