Didn't know if this should go under equipment, so put it here. Went to Harbor Freight today. Was surprised to find the 2-barrel tumbler on sale for $54.00. I had a grand opening coupon for what ended up an additional $6.00 off. Sure, I will take a gamble for that price. It is up and running in my utility room. Noise is minimal, as I partially closed the utility room door and also the door leading from living room to front hall which utility room is off from. I can hear just enough to detect any potential problems. The sound is rather soothing. Will keep checking until I fall asleep tonight. Don’t laugh too hard, but it is sitting on my clothes dryer. I covered the dryer top with some heavy-duty tool box liner. The tumbler is not moving at all. Will post updates on how it works. tumbler Here is the first batch. Agates, Jaspers, some Pet Wood and quartz. rocks 5-18

Mine just stopped. I can hear the motor receiving power but the bar is not turning. I can turn it by hand though so it is not stuck. Need to take it apart at some point and see what is going on.

Got two running at capacity right now.......the third needs a collar bearing replacement, making way to much noise but she runs fine.........another tip I've found useful...:
The little fan blades don't move much air, so I tested (measured) the motor heat they generate last summer on a +100* day in my shop......don't remember the exact temp's but once I removed the dual "cooling" plates and re-measured temps, I found that they run about 15* to 18* cooler without the plates. Just have to keep the belt/pulley's clean and keep the machine away from work areas where you might drop something into them........!..........Yes, tinkering and good maintenance will prolong their life and reduce ones anxiety....Even Lortone's need maintenance and a little tinkering, just my experience.

Got mine running again. Removed the top and bottom plates then took off the belt and large wheel. Loosened up the motor then sprayed the shaft with WD40 and turned the shaft by had to get the WD40 worked in. The plugged in back in and flipped the power off and on, which gradually loosened it up. More WD40 and more turning and it finally freed up. So I sprayed the shaft with more WD40 while running to make sure all the gunk got dissolved keeping the motor loose. Put it all back together and running great now.

fernwoodPlease be careful with that mat on your clothes dryer. A guy I worked with had a dryer start on fire because there was a pile of folded towels set on top. Things got too hot and started a fire. Good luck with the tumbler, will be cool to see your local rocks polished up!

Things got too hot and started a fire. Good luck with the tumbler, will be cool to see your local rocks polished up! No worries. If I am drying clothes, the tumbler is moved to the floor. My cat litter box is in the same room. I do not want any of my babies to be injured from it. When tumbler i on floor, I just close the door. Still have a window open in room for ventilation. I also do not want their hair to clog up tumbler. They have another litter box that can be used in a different room. This has been successful so far. My dryer is relatively new with a new vent system last year. The top stays ery cool, even with things on top. I am not taking any chances with the tumbler.

It came with 6 extra belts, so should be set for a while. Letting everything go for 2 weeks. One barrel full of course, unrefined rocks. Other one has refined cabs and some already course completed stones. Added some smaller aquarium gravel, smooth, to both for filler. Checking often. I have the patience. Will do clean out on Saturday and post results. Just good to be tumbling again.

Just a recent pic of a couple of my HF duals working hard on Lavic material..........one is going on 2yrs old the other 9mo......only use them for 60/90 cycles anymore. Break them down, clean and lube after each use........have a 3rd one, but it has a noisy bearing, not going to replace it, its now just my parts replacer.....lol.
