did you get an electric shock?
most likely if that the case it was static electricity and that can be a shocking experience!
anything more than that an you'll have to get an electrician to look at the connections before you turn anything more on
but static electricity is a problem I have some solutions to ....
have nice evening !

If you have a GFI to plug into. You should be using it to power your saw. It'll prevent that from happening again. Safety first and hope you feel better soon.

Glad you are OK. The "black thing" could be a type of flint.

Got a lecture from my dad about using GFIs I really dont know how he sets it up but I'll be checking to see if he is using them I am not an electrician. Most "modern" construction has ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) built into electrical circuits where there are typically hazards from water (kitchens, bathrooms, garages, outdoor receptacles). Older buildings (I won't attempt to define older)...not so much. Even if your cutting/work location doesn't have GFCI outlets, you can still buy portable devices with that feature (strip plugs, outlet adapters, in-line adapters). Here's some info that speaks to what GFCI's (GFI's) are and what they do. Good luck. www.osha.gov/SLTC/etools/construction/electrical_incidents/gfci.html

What aDave said. I am running a heavy duty, outdoor extension cord from a rather new (2015) GFI outlet in my living room. The only outlets in utility room were 2 prong, ungrounded ones. Except for the one dedicated for clothes dryer. The extension cord is thick, about 3/8" to 1/2". It is 12' cord. From there, it is plugged in a fused, heavy duty power strip. I can plug my tumbler and Dremel into that. Plus, the water drip system. This way, I have two potential shut off points prior to being zapped.
