I was invited to dig some of the Hartsel Colorado Blue Barite a few years ago. It comes out of the ground a bland whitish cream to greenish yellow, but after sitting in the sun for a few minutes it turns a beautiful sky blue.

I dug some of the Barite at Hartsel years ago and stored it in a closed flat. Pulled a few small pieces out about 6 months ago and put it on a window ledge on south side of the house. It's shade is turned to a pale blue, but nothing really dark yet. It's definitely Barite, just wonder if it's slightly different or not pure.

I think it needs direct sunlight to get a full sky blue. Or maybe I am just remembering it being more blue than it actually was, but I thought the shards on the ground were a beautiful sky blue.
